Botox & Fillers FAQs

What is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum Toxin is a protein produced by clostridium botulinum bacteria that blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles in the injected area. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes wrinkles to relax and soften.

When can I expect to see the results?

Generally it takes 3-7 days after injection to see the  full effect

How long do the effects last?

Effects last 4-6 months however when wrinkles reappear are often less severe because they are trained to relax. Botulinum Toxin is preventive as well as curative so over time you will need less and less.

What are the risks of this injection?

A Botulinum Toxin injection is generally very safe. You may have temporary bruising in the injection area. A small percentage of people may develop temporary eyelid drooping that resolves in 3 weeks. This is rare and completely reversible.

What are fillers?

Injectable fillers, unlike Botulinum Toxin injections that relax the muscle under a wrinkle, are used as volumizers - plumping and lifting the areas of the lower face to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, enhance facial contours, or fill out thinning lips.

Facial fillers are products that are made from hyaluronic acid gel, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps keep skin plump and hydrated. It is extracted and reformulated in an injectable form that restores volume, fullness, and hydration to the face and lips.

How do they work?

As we age, the face starts to lose volume. Just like other muscles in the body, the facial muscles start to sag leading to lines around the nose and mouth and sunken looking cheeks. Fillers injected in this area will lift and plump the underlying muscle as well as fill and smooth out the lines.

When will I see results?

The results are instant!

Is it painful?

The fillers have lidocaine, an anesthetic, within the injection.  This significantly decreases any discomfort. Most clients do not feel it at all.

How long do fillers last?

Fillers will last any where from 18 months to two years.
